Setting up the Star SP-312 for Touch-N-Sell or InfoTouch 1. Find the DIP switches. Inside the Star printer are four sets of DIP switches, labeled DSW1, DSW2, DSW3 and DSW4. To find them, simply lift the top covers off the unit and peer at the circuitboard. The switches are typically about 1/4" wide and about an inch long, and each switch has a number on it, such as 12345678 or 1234, and when a switch is one way it is "ON" while the other way it is "OFF." Usually there is some marking on the switch itself as to which direction is ON or OFF. 2. Your printer manual has information about the location of the DIP switches -- check the table of contents. 3. To work with Touch programs, here's how the DIP switches must be set: NOTE: MAKE SURE THE PRINTER IS POWERED OFF BEFORE YOU CHANGE THEM! DSW1 DSW2 DSW3 DSW4 12345678 12345678 12345678 1234 ON ******** ******** ***** **** OFF *** 4. Next, you need to make sure your AUTOEXEC.BAT and the TNS.BAT file say the same thing regarding the MODE setting of the computer which is connected to the SP312 printer. Here's what the command should be: If your printer is plugged into the COM1 port, use this: MODE COM1:9600,E,7,2 If your printer is plugged into the COM2 port, use this: MODE COM2:9600,E,7,2 You may have to edit the ?.BAT files do do this -- most of you probably have XTREE on your machines and that works fine. Whatever you use, make sure you use a pure ASCII text editor, not something like Worperfect or Microsoft Word, which store files in a special format. EDIT.COM or EDLIN work great if you have them on your system and know how to use them. 5. After you've set the switches and have made sure your MODE command is proper, reboot your computer to have the changes take effect and give it a try. It should work just right. 6. Special note: if you're converting from the old Star DP8340 and part of your invoices were printing in RED ink, things which are set to print in red will now be in REVERSE (white on black background) instead of red because the SP312 does not use a red/black ribbon. If you want to change this, use Touch's INVOICE DESIGNER to turn those parts of the invoice to normal print instead of "red."
